As experts in corrosion and wear resistant materials Rheinhütte offers process and media-specific solutions. Rheinhütte will select the right material for your conveyance requirement and will ensure minimum wear during long operational life – even when handling difficult media.
The silicon casting alloy SIGUSS has established itself as a renowned Rheinhütte material based on decades of experience. Its high chemical resistance and good resistance to solids are its distinguishing features. Despite the corrosive effect of sulphuric acid, the SIGUSS material is chemically resistant in all sulphuric acid concentrations up to boiling temperature.
PLASTICS
In pump engineering the non-metallic materials which are mainly used, are predominantly fluoropolymers and polyolefins. The advantage of these materials is their high resistance to acids and alkalis at low to medium temperatures. To resist external forces these pump types are usually protected by a metal casing.
Mineral casting/ composite material
Polymercarbide
A corrosion- and wear-resistant material that promises significantly longer service life and thus lower life cycle costs than conventional materials in pump construction, especially in chemically aggressive media.
Fluorpolymere
Polyvinyliden-Fluoride PVDF
PVDF is characterized by its excellent general corrosion resistance, high resistance to stress cracking and good UV resistance. Its usable temperature range is between -20 °C and 130 °C. The material is especially suitable for pumping hydrofluoric acid of all concentrations up to boiling point, liquids containing halogen, nitric acid/hydrofluoric acid pickles and for the evaporation of spent hydrochloric acid.
Perfluoralkoxi PFA

Polyolefins
Polypropylene PP
In many applications PP represents an economical alternative to high grade metallic materials. This material is suitable for pumping salt solutions, almost all dilute alkalis and acids and is also frequently used in hydrochloric acid pickling solutions. It can be used for working temperatures between 0 °C and 100 °C.
Polyethylen PE 1000 UHMW-PE
Only ultra high molecular weight low pressure polyethylene is used. Its usable temperature range is between -50 °C and 80 °C. Its general corrosion resistance exceeds that of PP in some cases. Due to its very good wear resistance, centrifugal pumps made of PE are very often used in media that are both corrosive and abrasive, such as in flue gas cleaning.
Polyethylene PE 1000 R
PE 1000R is a further development of the standard polyethylene PE 1000 with wear-minimizing additives for up to 20% higher resistance – for use in highly abrasive suspensions with process-related critical solids content. The material can be used at temperatures from -20 °C to +80 °C.
METAL
The range of metallic materials encom-passes a wide variety of very different types of material which are distinguished mainly by their alloy composition, their structure and their manufacturing process. This gives each material its characteristic properties and allows an optimal material to be selected to suit the application.
